March To-Dos in the DMV

#1 Cherry Blossoms – A favorite March outing is the annual cherry blossom festival. Enjoy music and a stroll down the national mall with a special someone. I’d recommend packing a picnic (and an umbrella.) This year, the festival begins March 20 and runs until April 15.

#2 Busboys & Poets – it’s always either chilly or rainy outside, so indoor activities are much-appreciated. Busboys & Poets is a restaurant and performance venue that hosts a range of events throughout the month. Look out for poetry slams, open mic nights, and board game happy hours.

#3 Saturday Night Swing – I recently discovered that the amusement park Glen Echo hosts swing dancing every Saturday from 8:00PM-12:00AM. There’s a $20 entry free which includes a dance lesson during the first hour. It’s a great way to meet people and burn off winter weight in time for swimsuit season.

#4 Seminars at the Smithsonian – The Smithsonian Associates sponsor seminars on a variety of topics throughout the year. They’re fascinating and educational— and usually indoors, which is perfect for the fickle March weather. Prices range from $20 to upwards of $100, but you’re paying for a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. The seminars feature renowned lecturers and sometimes include exclusive tours and interviews.

#5 The Witch Doesn’t Burn in this One – Amanda Lovelace’s new book just came out, and it’s worth devoting an evening to. Grab a copy at your local bookstore, make yourself a bubble bath, and enjoy.
